New server from ASUS is optimized for edge-computing infrastructure and CU/DU deployment

TAIPEI, Taiwan, February 27, 2023— ASUS has announced the ESR1-511-X4TF, a versatile, high-performance and TCO-optimised server designed for edge computing and O-RAN Centralized Unit (CU) and Distributed Unit (DU) applications.

    This new machine:

    • is a 1U, ultra-low-footprint server powered by 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors with Intel vRAN Boost
    • is designed for improving performance on virtualized radio access network (vRAN) applications
    • delivers integrated acceleration with 2X capacity gains within the same power envelope; and
    • improves performance-per-watt metrics by up to 100% (compared to 3rd Gen processors), helping to meet performance, scalability and energy efficiency requirements
    • will be available through ASUS partners in Q2 2023.

TCO-optimisation is achieved through the inclusion, in selected models, of an integrated Intel vRAN Accelerator ACC100 card, as well as an Intel E810 time-synchronization module created by ASUS.

When used with 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable series processors, the new server supports the QAT L1 acceleration function without sacrificing the PCI Express® 5.0 interface — empowering the ability to process O-RAN L1/L2 in one system.

“We’re thrilled to launch ESR1-511-X4TF, which is designed to meet the needs of our customers who are looking for a cost-effective, high-performance solution for edge computing and O-RAN CU/DU deployment,” said Richard Liu, General Manager of the ASUS Enterprise Solutions business unit. “With its innovative features and design, ESR1-511-X4TF is the perfect server for organizations looking to optimize their edge-computing infrastructure.”

    Additional technical details

    • delivers increased capacity with higher performance Intel vRAN Boost acceleration, including new acceleration for Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) channel-estimation workloads
    • has a front-access design and a depth of 430 mm, accommodating up to two FH3/4L slots for GPU and FPGA cards for edge AI computing and O-RAN CU/DU deployment
    • benefits from carrier-grade design and extended operating temperatures
    • uses less power by consolidating additional DDR4 and PCI Express controllers onto a discrete accelerator.

    Availability and Pricing
